More than 295,000 people have used credit cards to pay their mortgage or rent in the North West, new research has found.
Shelter said that of the 2,202 people in Great Britain asked if they had borrowed money on their credit card to pay their rent or mortgage in the last 12 months, five per cent of respondents in the North West confirmed they had.
This represents a massive increase compared to just two per cent in November.
Vanessa Dixon, Shelter North West regional manager, commented: “This research brings into sharp focus how keeping a roof over their head has become a daily struggle for thousands across the North West.
“This is a totally unsustainable situation and one which we fear could see many more families pushed into the spiral of debt, eviction or repossession and ultimately homelessness.”
Shelter offers advice, information and advocacy to people in housing need. Read full article…

” Santander is charging all store card customers a 10 fee if they do not use their cards for six months,” she noted.
“Customers who signed up with House of Fraser, Debenhams, Laura Ashley, Topshop and Dorothy Perkins may all be hit if they only used their card for the introductory offer.”
Meanwhile, Stuart McKeggie, head of cards at Sainsbury’s Finance, recently advised consumers to use credit cards that give something back every time they shop.
