When you make purchases do you rely on a credit card as much as you use to? If not, than you are like millions of other consumers that have decided to manage their credit card spending differently than years past. While in the past credit cards lead the way in purchases, today it looks like consumers have a different mindset and unfortunately for issuers it is one that has minimized their involvement.
When looking at recent reports indicating that cardholders have opted to use their cards less many experts are pointing to the month of February where retail sales rose but credit card usage fell. In the past when retail sales rose it was almost a given that majority of these purchases involved the use of credit cards. Instead reports showed that consumers used other forms of payments such as cash and debit cards.
As for consumers deciding to spend less on their credit cards, it is a trend that continues to grow in popularity as millions have decided all the recent changes to their terms and rates were enough. Instead cash and debit cards have quickly grown as the main forms of payments and there is so sign of consumers letting up. In addition to that many consumers are starting to use other alternative payments to make purchase which more than often carry lower interest rates than what some cardholders have associated with their credit cards at the moment.
