Even if you are free and clear from credit card debt at the present time, this does not mean that you are out of the woods just yet. At anytime you could backslide and find yourself in more trouble. If you have a history of credit card problems you really need to watch what you are doing.

Here are three past problems you may have faced, and information on what you can do to avoid them in the future:

1. Running up too high of a balance. Even if you can afford to pay your credit card balance in full, you want to be careful about how much you use your plastic. You never know when you will take things too far and find yourself in trouble. Track every purchase that you make, and put your credit card away if you feel that your balance is climbing too high.

2. Not paying on time. One of the last things you want to do is miss a credit card payment. Paying the minimum may not be the best idea, but if you do this you will at least avoid taking a hit on your credit report. It is important to know when your next payment is due, and then to make sure you get it to the appropriate party on time.

3. Letting finance charges get the best of you. If you always pay your bill in full you never have to worry about paying a dime in interest. Unfortunately, millions of people opt against this. Instead, they carry a balance and in turn pay additional money in finances charges.

The above three problems may have plagued you in the past. This does not mean you have to deal with them in the future.
