One of the biggest benefits of using a credit card is that you can receive reward points for every dollar you spend. Of course, this is only true if you have a credit card with a reward program attached to it. This is something you need to think about when applying for a card.
It goes without saying that the more you use your credit card the more points you are going to rack up. For this reason, and if you feel comfortable doing so, you should use your plastic for many day to day purchases. This includes everything from gas to groceries to utility bills. But again, keep in mind that this is only a good idea if you are 100 percent sure that you will pay your balance in full when it comes due. While reward points are great, they lose their value if you are paying a lot of money in finance charges.
How many credit card reward points do I need before I can get something nice? This is a question for your company. If you are part of a reward program you should receive a catalog on a regular basis. Along with this, most programs have online access that shows what you can cash your points in for as well as how many you need to get what you want.
If you have the ability to increase the number of reward points in your account, you should do so. Just make sure you are not jeopardizing your credit and financial status along the way.
