Does the student in your life want to apply for a credit card? If you think this is a good idea, based on their age and maturity, you may be willing to agree. That being said, you should never let your student move forward alone. Instead, you should be with them every step of the way to ensure that they apply for and receive the best possible credit card. Remember, with so many offers out there it is very easy to make a mistake.

The best thing you can do is to help your student compare many credit card offers. You will find out soon enough that many offers look good, but only a few will suit the wants and needs of both you and your child.

Of course, your job does not stop once the credit card is applied for. You must also do your part in teaching how to be responsible with this type of spending power. As you can imagine, this is every bit as important as the actual comparison and selection. It does not matter what credit card your student ends up with because all of them can cause a lot of financial damage. If you do not believe that your child is responsible enough to carry a credit card you may want to avoid this situation for the time being.

If your child wants to apply for a credit card you need to be involved with the process from start to finish. This is a big step in their life. Do what you can to make sure it is a good one!
