How are you paying for gifts this holiday season? Those who are smart are using cash. This way when January rolls around they do not have any additional debt to deal with. Others are using credit cards – these include store credit cards. There is no denying that store credit cards have a lot of benefits to offer, especially during the holidays. But you still have to be careful about how much you buy, what you purchase, etc.
The main benefit of using a store credit card is that you will probably receive some sort of perk. For instance, some stores give large discounts, sometimes as much as 20 percent, for those who use their store credit card. Obviously, this works out to big time savings. And during the holidays saving money is something that most people are trying to do.
The downside of a store credit card is easy to see: you will need to pay your balance at some point in time. If you are not careful your balance could grow and grow and grow during this time of the year. Soon enough you will receive a statement showing the damage. This is when you may realize that using your store credit card was a bad idea.
Before you ever use this payment method you should know how much interest you will be charged if you carry over a balance. This allows you to get a better idea of what you will be paying in the months to come.
There are both pros and cons of using store credit cards during the holiday shopping season. Weigh them out and then make the best possible financial decision.
