Believe it or not, there are millions of Americans who do not carry one credit card in their wallet or purse. Instead, they feel more comfortable paying for everything with cash. Others, of course, have at least one credit card if not more. There are many good reasons for a carrying a credit card, and realizing what they are may put you on a better path.
The primary point of carrying a credit card is that you can “buy now and pay later.” This may sound cliché, but it is 100 percent true. No matter what you purchase with your credit card you are not paying for it on the spot. Instead, you do not have to part with any money until your statement arrives. And even then, you are not required to pay the entire amount in full.
Another benefit of using a credit card is that you can collect reward points for each dollar that you spend. As your points build and build, you will find that you can cash them in for everything from hotel stays to home electronics and much more. This is not a benefit that you can take advantage of when you pay with cash or your debit card.
One last thought: just because there are benefits of carrying a credit card does not mean that you should necessarily do so. You may feel that the potential drawbacks outweigh the potential benefits.
If you are comfortable with your current system there is no reason to change. There are definite reasons to carry a credit card. Do any of them change your feelings on the subject?
