Do you have some sort of connection with your credit card? Some people just won’t get rid of their plastic for one reason or the next. Simply put, if your credit card has nothing to offer you need to get rid of it at once. There is nothing good that can come from hanging onto a card that is making your life miserable.
This is not to say that you definitely want to get rid of your credit card. There are millions of people who are happy with what they have. You can be one of them as long as you know what you are getting in return. For instance, are you happy with the low APR that your credit card offers? How about the great rewards program? There are many details that could benefit you. The question is: are you taking advantage of any of these benefits?
Sometimes getting rid of your credit card is a hard thing to do. But remember, you can always replace it with something else. Just because you close down one credit card account does not mean you have to keep things this way. In fact, you may want to replace it right away with more credit to ensure that your score does not take too big of a hit.
One last point: just because you hang onto your credit card does not mean you have to use it. Instead, you can leave it at home or just for emergency purposes. Sometimes canceling a card is not the best idea. Even if you keep it you don’t have to use it.
If you are going to hang onto your credit card, make sure it is offering the benefits and advantages you are looking for.
